In comeback for the ages, Muskegon rallies, will meet Delaware City for title
FREDERICKSBURAG Virginia -- Sunday's Major Arena Soccer League 3 championship game is set as Delaware City FC, who plays out of Wilmington, will meet the undefeated Muskegon Risers.
Either winner will provide the league its third winner in five years of league action. Northern Virginia, which was eliminated from the post season on the last weekend of the season, won the league championship each of the first three season.
The RGV Barracudas won last year's title, and looked like they might get a chance to defend it after a back-and-forth semi-finals against DCFC. But Delaware got power play late in the fourth quarter, which extended into overtime before Sebastian Renteria quickly got the man advantage goal for a 10-9 Delaware City triumph.
DCFC finished the season 8-2, same as Northern Virginia, but advance to the playoffs on a tiebreaker. They allowed the third fewest goals in the league during the regular season.
And then there's Muskegon, down and out trailing 9-2 heading into the fourth quarter. But this being indoor soccer, where most anything can happen and often does, the Risers put together an incredible rally to win 11-10 to advance in defeating the OKC Certified Lions.
Sunday's championship games kicks off at 12:30, with a live stream of the action available free of charge at ballercam.com. A link to the stream will be posted on the league's Facebook page prior to kickoff.
