Delaware City snags final playoff spot, will kick off quarterfinals games Friday
FREDERICKSBURG, Virginia -- This weekend, Virginia is for indoor soccer lovers.
Major Arena Soccer League 3 will play its championship weekend in Fredericksburg, Virginia, starting with four games Friday, March 27, when the last team in is the first to take to the field.
Delaware City FC, a first-year team, won the hotly contested Atlantic Division with an 8-2 win over Baltimore last weekend to secure the last spot. That win also knocked out Northern Virginia, who has won three league titles and who will miss the post-season for the first time in the five year history of MASL 3.
Delaware City got two goals and one assist from Agi Pacheco and two goals from Carlos Lievano to defeat the Kings, who will also be in the eight-team field by virtue of being the host teams. DCFC will kick things off Friday morning at 11 a.m. when they matchup against the Cincinnati Swerve.
Also on tap Friday at 1:30 p.m. are the defending champions RGV Barracudas who will matchup against the highest scoring team in the league in the Roc City Boom. The Rochester, N.Y. team is coming off a 29-1 win last weekend against Youngstown.
At 4 p.m. the Cleveland Samba will take on the OKC Certified Lions with the 6:30 nightcap featuring the Baltimore Kings against the undefeated Muskegon Risers.
Semifinals will be on Saturday at 12:30 and 3 p.m. with the winners of the two early games playing each other, and the same for the other semi finals which will match up the winners from the two late games on Friday. Sunday's title game will be at 12:30 p.m.
All games are being played at the Fredericksburg Fieldhouse in Fredericksburg, and all games will be broadcast free of charge for fans from Maryland to Texas and beyond.
