DMV Gunners pick up first-ever victory

by Scott Ludwig

It took just two games for the new DMV Gunners to earn their first victory in MASL 3 as the visitors defeated Salisbury Steaks 9-5 on January 13. DMV had dropped their opener against the Philadelphia Spartans 6-4 last month in their indoor debut.

Edgar Godoy got the Gunners off on the right foot in Salisbury scoring the opening two goals before the Steaks evened the score by the end of the quarter.

Gavin Schiels and Jason D’Addario scored the lone goals of the second to give DMV a 4-3 advantage at halftime. Vilius Matalavage and Matt Yingling would make it 6-3 before Salisbury snapped the run. Godoy wasn't finished though, scoring late in the third to give the Gunners a three-goal advantage heading into the final frame.

Edgar Espinoza and Godoy closed scoring in the fourth to wrap up the historic win.

DMV Gunners (1-1-0) return to action on Saturday for their home opener where they will face the Baltimore Kings (3-1-0). Still searching for a vicotry, Salisbury Steaks (0-5-0) host NoVA FC (2-1-0) also on Saturday.
