Economides named as Chairman for Major Arena Soccer League 3

WARREN, Ohio -- Major Arena Soccer League 3 and Major Arena Soccer League Women today are announcing Chris Economides is transitioning from Commissioner of MASL 3 and MASL W to Chairman, a new role recognizing his continued leadership and long-standing impact on the league. Economides remains Commissioner of MASL 2.

“Chris has been an incredibly valuable member of the MASL 3 and MASL W family, and the time, energy, and commitment he has given to these leagues has not gone unnoticed,” said Joshua Auden, President of MASL 3 and MASL W. “Looking back at last season, Chris carried a tremendous amount for this organization, and we wanted to be more intentional about his role moving forward. As Chairman, Chris will be a steady voice in the room —a mentor to our staff, someone who helps guide decisions and supports the league as we keep building this the right way. I’m grateful to have him with us, and I’m excited for what this next chapter looks like with the right people aligned around a shared vision.”

Economides has more than three decades in the sport, with an extensive background in both club and league operations.

“It’s been an honor to help build MASL 3 and MASL W from the ground up, and I’m excited to step into this new role,” said Economides. “This game, and this league, deserve people who are in it for the long haul, and I look forward to continuing to support our clubs, our staff, and this community as we keep growing.”

His thirty plus years in the sports started in upstate New York with the Rochester Rhinos of the USL, leading the club to league and U.S. Open Cup championships. The Rhinos remain the only non-MLS team to win the U.S. Open Cup since Major League Soccer was established. After Rochester, Economides founded the Carolina Railhawks (now North Carolina FC) before moving into the USL front office, where he helped establish and grow the league as a Senior Director and as Commissioner of the MISL during its time under USL management.

In addition to his experience in the outdoor game and league office, Economides has also managed indoor teams with the Kansas City Attack and, most recently, the Florida Tropics. As a co-owner, he helped the Attack win the 1992-93 NPSL championship, and as general manager helped led the Tropics to the finals of the 2021-22 MISL season where they fell in two one-goal games to the San Diego Sockers.
