Last in, last standing ... Delaware City FC earns 2025-26 MASL 3 championship

FREDERICKSBURG, Virginia -- The last team to qualify for the post season was the last team standing as Delaware City FC -- a first year team in Major Arena Soccer League 3 -- claimed the championship Sunday ending the run of Muskegon Risers, who were looking to complete a nearly  perfect season.

Delaware took its playoff chance down to the final game of the league's regular season, where they defeated the Baltimore Kings to earn the final postseason spot in the eight team field. Once, in, they consistently performed starting with an impressive 9-3 win over the Cincinnati Swerve. On Saturday DCFC faced the defending MASL 3 champion RGV Barracudas, winning in overtime.

On Sunday, playoffs MVP Henry Gamez made sure the trophy would be heading to Wilmington, scoring six goals in a 10-6 win.

Muskegon heading into the finals had not lost a game in regulation time -- their only loss came in overtime to the Swerve in their last game of the regular season -- although that they were there at all was something of a miracle, even by indoor soccer standards, The Risers trailed 10-2 early in the fourth quarter, before scoring nine straight to win in the first-minute of extra time to eliminate the OKC Certified Lions, 11-10. They opened in the quarterfinals with a 13-4 win over the Baltimore Kings.
