MASL 3 championship game set for Saturday in Winchester

After a 12-game regular season two Major Arena Soccer League 3 teams stood above the rest in 2023-24. NoVA FC claimed the top spot in the regular season with the Philadelphia Spartans just one game back. Both teams were victorious in their playoff semifinals to earn their spot in the MASL 3 championship game scheduled for Saturday. NoVA FC will host the match set for 6:45 PM at the Winchester Sportsplex.

Northern Virginia FC (11-2-0)

Regular season: 10-2-0

Semifinal: defeated Fredericksburg Fire 13-8

Philadelphia Spartans (10-3-0)

Regular season: 9-3-0

Semifinal: defeated DMV Gunners 9-5

Defending league champ NoVA FC had a fairly poor start to their 2023-24 campaign losing their opener to the Spartans 9-8 on December 9. They then reeled off three straight wins before an 11-3 home loss to the DMV Gunners on January 27. Eight wins later and NoVA find themselves back in the final.

The Spartans have been near the top of the table all season after winning their first four games of the season. Their first loss came at the hands of the Salisbury Steaks, 6-1, on February 3. Three weeks later Philadelphia lost at NoVA 13-6, but have now won five in-a-row after losing at DMV 9-7 on March 2.

The two teams also met in the 2023 championship game when NoVA won a overtime thriller 9-8 at the Sportsplex.
