MASL 3 'super' showdown goes to defending champs NOVA FC over Fredericksburg Fire
TAMPA, Fla. -- Major Arena's Soccer League 3's lone weekend matchup was a "super" one with last year's defending league champions NOVA Fc traveling to Fredericksburg, Virginia, on Saturday night to take on the undefeated and league-leading fire.
When the smoke had cleared, the two teams pumped in 31 totals goals, including a seven-goal second quarter that lifted NOVA FC to a 20-11 triumph, to improve to 2-1 on the season. Fredericksburg fell to 4-1.
And the two top teams will get little chance to rest on their laurels, as the pair will tangle for a key home-and-home series the weekend of Feb. 25 and 26, with the Fire hosting on Saturday and NOVA FC playing the host on Sunday.
Last Saturday, the Fire had no answer for NOVA's Ahmed Sheta who pumped in seven goals and added an assist to lead the offensive outburst. Johnny De Souza and Brandon Clegg each had hat tricks while Clegg also had two assists for a five-point game. Brandon Williamson and JP Ayolmbong each added a pair.
For the Fire, Carson Jeffris led the way with four goals while teammate Nathan Foglesong had a hat trick. Eric Jennings and Liam Emson had two goals each.
