NoVA FC wrap up regular season title; playoff spots still undecided

by Scott Ludwig

With just one week remaining in the Major Arena Soccer League 3 regular season NoVA FC are the lone club to have clinched a spot for the upcoming playoffs. NoVA (6-1-0) defeated Fredericksburg Fire 16-6 last Sunday to secure their spot and an opportunity to defend their title.

Two other playoff spots are still undecided with three teams in the mix. Fredericksburg Fire (5-5-0) is the lone team to have completed their regular season. They currently sit in third place, but will need some help to return to the playoffs.

Philadelphia Spartans (5-3-0) took command of second place after taking a pair of games against host Virginia Marauders (0-7-0) last weekend. The Spartans dominated the series opener 13-4 before a 10-5 win on Sunday.

In the other game last weekend Baltimore Kings (4-4-0) evened their record with a 7-5 home win over Fire FC. The Kings can earn a spot in the postseason, but will need to win their final two games. They will face both Philadelphia and NoVA on the road this weekend.

In control of their playoff destiny, the Spartans close out their regular season at home when they face Baltimore on Friday then the Marauders Saturday night. Win and they will host the semifinal against the third seed.
