TAMPA, Florida -- Maybe it was Monday's impending lunar eclipse, or maybe it was inspiration from the recently completed Olympics. But whatever it was, a number of stars in Major Arena Soccer League three went "mental" this past weekend, as described by a game report in Muskegon's localsportsjournal.com, with five different players scoring at least nine points in one game to lift their respective teams to the top, or near the top, of their divisions.

None was more impressive than the weekend turned in by the Muskegon Risers, who scored 42 goals in sweeping three games in three days, starting with a win over Cincinnati in Muskegon. The two teams came in tied for the Great Lakes lead at 6-0, but the Risers won 12-4 to stay undefeated. They then saw Firket Hasovic score 14 points and Elmedin Zukic 10 points in a road win over Detroit Waza Flo. They followed that with a second road win over Detroit to continue undefeated.

Not to be outdone, the Maryland Storm had two players score 10 points each in a win over the Virginia Marauders. Edgar Godoy and Angel Chavez turned that trick, and Jean Philipe had nine points in Northern Virginia's big win over Baltimore in the Atlantic.

Ironically, the highest scoring team in the league, the Roc City Boom managed just eight goals total in winning their seventh straight, and Cleveland handled Youngstown to round out Week 16 play.

Down to the final three weeks of the regular season, Week 17 will feature Cleveland taking on the Roc City Boom, the RGV Barracudas hosting the Wichita Selection, Baltimore in a rematch on the road to meet Northern Virginia and the Kings playing their second in two days when they host the Maryland Storm.
