Salisbury, Maryland, awarded new MASL 3 franchise
Major Arena Soccer League 3 has grown to at least seven teams for the 2023-24 season with the awarding of a new franchise to Salisbury, Maryland, according to Commissioner Chris Economides.
The news comes on the heels of the recently announced DMV Gunners who will call Westminster, Maryland, home. Salisbury and Westminster -- which are about 140 miles apart -- will join the five teams that played this past season including the Baltimore Kings, Fredericksburg Fire, Philadelphia Spartans, Northern Virginia FC and Virginia Marauders.
Salisbury is Maryland's largest city on the state's eastern shore . With a population of 35,000, it is considered the commercial hub of the Delmarva peninsula.
The team will play their home portion of their 10-game regular season at the Crown Sports Center. A "name-the-team" contest will be held in the coming weeks, with details http://www.prosocceralliance.com/salisbury.
The franchise is owned by Josh Danza, owner of the Baltimore Kings, and who was just named head coach for the USA Futsal Federation National team.

"We're beyond excited to bring MASL3 to the Maryland Eastern Shore," Danza noted. "Jeremy Norton and Adam Manning from Crown Sports Center are the perfect partners for this project. Our goal is to create a platform to showcase local and talented players. Salisbury has a rich soccer tradition, and I look forward to earning the support of local soccer fans."
The new franchise will hit the ground running, Economides believes.
"We're very pleased to welcome Salisbury into M3. Josh is an excellent owner who is a great promoter of the sport," Economides said. "His commitment to the indoor game, both the indoor game and futsal, is impressive to say the least. He has a passion and proven track record on and off the field already and great partners already on board in Salisbury. It's another great step in the professional, positive advancement of America's true indoor soccer pyramid to develop players, officials and owners in helping grow the game the right way."
